URGENT: today in Russia, a terrible bill passed in the Russian parliament’s lower house that censors all things considered “gay”. It’s our local partners’ worst nightmare and we need your help.
This vote comes off the back of two brutal anti-gay murders in Russia, and the trial of a major LGBT rights organisation today.
Tell world leaders to STOP the crackdown, add your name:www.allout.org/russia-attacks

REALLY IMPORTANT

This really is happening, and it’s scary as hell.

“Update June 12: the situation is worsening. Russia has just passed a new anti-gay law makes it illegal even to say the word “gay”.  People in Russia standing up against the crackdown are urging All Out members to keep growing the petition to help draw the attention of world leaders and the media.”

Natalia Pisarenko is a visually impaired Russian orphan, much like my good friend, Viktoria. Due to the new ban imposed by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, Natalia and other handicapped orphans like her cannot be adopted. Natalia’s sight could be helped by doctors in other parts of the world, like the United States, where she was on course to be adopted, but Russia does not have the specialists she needs.
To think that one of my best friends could have been in this adoption limbo where Natalia now is pains me in the heart. Viktoria was adopted at 12 years old, and has also been blind since birth due to a genetic disorder.

My classmate from high school, Tatyana McFadden (a paraolympian who was adopted from Russia where she was not expected to live), is rallying against this too.  It’s so heartbreaking.  One of my mom’s friend’s friend was in the process of being able to adopt a child from Russia very soon, but now she’s probably not going to be able to. :(
